Description

The story goes that in 1828, a farmer from Roscoff chartered a barge to load it with onions. Then, with three companions, they set sail for England. Upon arriving in Plymouth, they quickly sold their cargo. While not definitively proven, this is considered the first recorded instance of Roscoff onion trade with England.

In the United Kingdom, the vendors were called "Johnnies" (little John). This nickname came from the fact that it was common to travel with children. The names Yann and Yannick were very common at the time, and since the children were small, they were affectionately nicknamed "Johnny" by the English.

Initially, braids were carried with a stick over the shoulder, then later by bicycle. Sales were conducted door-to-door. Today they have diversified into other products, like these peppers, which are vibrant and full of warmth. One of the nations most famous spices, grown in Brittany.

6-7 Peppers in a bunch.
