What are Truffles?
We love everything truffle at O&O and have managed to put together quite a collection of beautiful truffle based products. However delicious they might be, the world of truffles can be fairly intimidating when first approached so we have put together this small guide as a quick introduction to these luxury fungi.
What are truffles?
Truffles are edible fungi found growing underground alongside the roots of specific tree species with which they form a symbiotic relationship. The vast majority are found in Italy, however they can be found around the world in similar mediterranean-like climates. There are several different species of truffle, all with their own unique flavours. The products that we offer are made using only the best Black summer truffles (Tuber aestivum), Black truffle (Tuber melanosporum), and White truffle (Tuber magnatum), white truffle being the most sought after.
What do truffles taste like?
The taste of truffle is very hard to describe. It is generally earthy and slightly mushroomy, however there is a great spectrum of flavour depending on the species, with white truffles being intense, almost garlicky, and musky, and black summer truffles more on the earthy/mushroomy side.
Our truffle products
We stock a range of delicious truffle products. Many are imported directly from Tartufi Ponzio, a small truffle specialist in Alba, Italy, who use the highest quality Italian truffles ( mainly white alba truffles) to produce products such as white truffle honey and white truffle salt, both of which are sure to add a big hit of white truffle to any dish.

In addition to truffle based products, we also import fresh black summer truffles (tuber aestivum) directly from Italy. There is nothing quite like fresh truffles, they are perfect for making truffle risotto, truffle pasta, or adding to any dish that you would usually use mushroom. Our fresh truffles can be purchased here.
